Identity theft has become a great concern, so we at Fremont National encourage you to review these tips and resources to help you protect your accounts and personal information.
Identity Protection Tips
- When throwing sensitive information and documents away, tear or shred credit card applications and other financial mail (statements, insurance information, investment information, etc.). Also shred utility and other bills when they are no longer needed.
- Do not carry your social security card, birth certificate, or passport in your wallet or purse.
Never have your social security number or driver's license number printed on your bank checks.
- Do not give your personal information over the telephone to an unknown caller. If the caller states that they are a financial representative, hang up and dial that institution to confirm that the caller is actually from your bank.
- If you feel that you may be a victim of identity theft or would like more information, listed below are two valuable resources:
US Government Consumer ID Theft
(www.consumer.gov/idtheft)
Federal Trade Commission
Facts for Consumers--Take Charge: Fighting Back Against Identity Theft (http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/idtheft/idt04.shtm)
ID Theft Hotline 1-877-ID-THEFT (1-877-438-4338)
If you are a victim of identity theft, follow these three steps…
- Contact the fraud departments of each of the three major credit bureaus and report that your identity has been stolen. Ask that a "fraud alert" be placed on your file and that no new credit be granted without your approval.

Experian

- For any accounts that have been fraudulently accessed or opened, contact the security departments of the appropriate creditors or financial institutions. Close these accounts. Put Passwords (not your mother's maiden name) on any new accounts you open.
- File a report with your local police or the police where the identity theft took place. Get a copy of the report in case the bank, credit card company, or others need proof of the crime at a later date.
